An American Carol

While at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota I got a chance to catch a special pre-release screening of An American Carol. A good laugh, a bit jumpy at times that was a little confusing but overall some decent funny entertainment. If you are a conservative or simply find liberal dribble annoying and always fantasized about slapping Michael Moore, then you will absolutely love this movie. From an objective film-making perspective, the film was a little weak and I found a lot of edits rather harsh, interrupting flow, and the argument used to convert the Moore character a little wanting. You definitely have to keep in mind it is supposed to be a parody and not get expectations too high on the political rhetoric. Otherwise, just from a straight entertainment point view, this was quite a funny film with many truly hilarious scenes. Basically, the film just parodied Michael Moore the whole time, although they also threw in a couple of other digs at some other prominent liberal extremists. One of my favorite scenes is when a character, obviously Rosy O’Donnell, made a documentary comparing Christians to terrorists, and showed a clip of her documentary with Nuns blowing themselves up to get the 72 virgins. Watching Bill O’Reilly slap the Moore character was just really cool. If you are conservative leaning and looking for some good entertainment you will like this movie. If you are a liberal you may find some aspects of it entertaining, but if you like Michael Moore I doubt you’ll find any part of this film funny. Starring Kelsey Grammer along with other great parody stars and a cameo by Jon Voight, the film comes out on October 3rd and I truly believe most people will enjoy it.
